The Legislature is finishing the fourth week of the 2015 legislative session. WSDA members spoke at four bill hearings.

We kicked things off with House Bill 1441 and Senate Bill 5159 which would allow for dental therapists on tribal lands. Dr. Chris Delecki, Dr. Mary Jennings and WSDA’s Executive Director Bracken Killpack testified in opposition of this legislation.

We returned to Olympia on Wednesday to testify in the House Health Care Committee on two bills. First,House Bill 1002  which would require insurance carriers that offer standalone dental coverage to submit a loss ratio and other plan information to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. This information would be disclosed to the public. Dr. Amy Cook and Bracken Killpack testified in favor of this legislation.

Dr. Vic Barry, UW dental student Halee Hyatt and Bracken Killpack later testified against House Bill 1514. If adopted, HB 1514 would remove the requirement that a licensed dentist must own, operate and maintain a dental practice in Washington.
